NASA - NASA Selects Target Crater for Lunar Impact of LCROSS Spacecraft
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. -- NASA has identified the spot where it will search for water on the moon. Reporters are invited to attend the announcement of the target location where the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, and its spent Centaur rocket will hit in October. The briefing will take place at 10 a.m. PDT, Friday, Sept. 11, in the main auditorium, Building N201, of NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. The event will be broadcast live on NASA Television and the agency's Web site.

Hubble Finds 'Tenth Planet' Slightly Larger Than Pluto

It really so Excited that telling you For the first time, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has seen distinctly the "tenth planet," currently nicknamed "Xena," and found that it's only slightly larger than Pluto.

Though previous ground-based observations suggested that Xena's diameter was about 30 percent greater than Pluto, Hubble observations taken Dec. 9 and 10, 2005, showed Xena's diameter as 1,490 miles (with an uncertainty of 60 miles).
Pluto's diameter, as measured by Hubble, is 1,422 miles.
"Hubble is the only telescope capable of getting a clean visible-light measurement of the actual diameter of Xena," said Mike Brown, planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif. Brown's research team discovered Xena, officially cataloged as 2003 UB313, and its results have been accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal.
Only a handful of images were required to determine Xena's diameter. Located 10 billion miles from Earth with a diameter a little more than half the width of the United States, the object is 1.5 pixels across in Hubble's view. That's enough to make a precise size measurement.

Because Xena is smaller than previously thought, but comparatively bright, it must be one of the most reflective objects in the solar system. The only object more reflective is Enceladus, a geologically active moon of Saturn whose surface is continuously recoated with highly reflective ice by active geysers.
Xena's bright reflectivity is possibly due to fresh methane frost on its surface. The object may have had an atmosphere when it was closer to the sun, but as it moved to its current location farther away this atmosphere would have "frozen out," settling on the surface as frost.
Another possibility is that Xena leaks methane gas continuously from its warmer interior. When this methane reaches the cold surface, it immediately freezes solid, covering craters and other features to make it uniformly bright to Hubble's telescopic eye.

Xena's takes about 560 years to orbit the sun, and it is now very close to aphelion (the point on its orbit that is farthest from the sun). Brown next plans to use Hubble and other telescopes to study other recently discovered Kuiper Belt objects that are almost as large as Pluto and Xena. The Kuiper Belt is a vast ring of primordial icy comets and larger bodies encircling Neptune's orbit.
Finding that the largest known Kuiper Belt object is a virtual twin to Pluto may only further complicate the debate about whether to categorize the large icy worlds that populate the belt as planets. If Pluto were considered to be the minimum size for a planet, then Xena would fulfill this criterion, too. In time, the International Astronomical Union will designate the official name.

we faced in our study (specified in digital) dealing with Resistances specifically Carbon Resistances, and now I will try to explain to you an easy way to deal with resistance and using it later isA.
All you have to do is to deal with table .......

in this picture :
o First and second ring represents by number
o Third rig represent zeros of the number
o Forth ring represent tolerance rang
o If there is fifth ring, it will represent error value
o If there is sixth ring, it will represent temperature effect

Small Note : if the resistance you got have a No color tolerance >>> so you will read the resistance from the smallest distance between ring and edge


There are another type of Resistance like the wired Resistance and Variance Resistance .... etc

Battery remaining time

Hi Friends,
I recently bought laptop hp pavilion and notified that all the information available about Battery is the percentage ...... So I need to know also the remaining time and it is so easy just install this gadget called "Battery Monitor" from Microsoft site here
after set up you need to to set the check box "don't ask windows to provide the battery remaining time,calculate it instead" because system doesn't support to provide this information unless you set additional software from hp site ...

this is an easy way to get Battery remaining time , there are so many ways too....

Doodle 4 Google

hey friends ,
Google doodle Competition that occurred in Egypt a few days before was ended successfully and left a smiles on the Orphans Celebrating of the Orphan's Day that takes place April 3rd 2009
Out of the 160 wonderful doodles designed by orphans on March 20th only 25 doodles were selected to the final stage that a public vote was opened for selecting the winning doodle!

Google organized the first ever Doodle for Google Competition in the Middle East

Dear Friends,
On 20th of March, Google organized the first ever Doodle for Google Competition in the Middle East. We invited over 160 orphans from different orphanages in Egypt at the GUC premises for a fun day. The kids drew AMAZING doodles that exceeded expectations. It was loads of fun, and most importantly, the kids enjoyed it!
Khaled AbulNaga, the Egyptian movie star, attended the event, and he was really touched by the children, and decided to sponsor one of them until he graduates from college!
Now, we want the whole world to know how talented are those Egyptian kids ... we want to share this link with everyone, and ask people to vote for the winning doodle. The voting will last until the end of March, so VOTE now and forward to all your friends.

Junk alert for space station crew

The crew of the International Space Station has been forced to shelter in the Russian Soyuz capsule after a close call with a piece of space debris.

The three crew members are now out of danger and have returned to the ISS, Russian mission control officials told Reuters news agency.

Nasa said news of the debris threat had come too late for flight controllers to move the space station out of the way.

The scare comes just over a month after two satellites collided over Siberia.

Officials said the decision to move the astronauts had been a precaution and that the probability of an impact with the ISS had been low.

The space station's operating rules require crew members to be evacuated when debris is detected within a set distance.

Russian Yury Lonchakov and Americans Michael Fincke and Sandra Magnus took refuge for about nine minutes in the Soyuz TMA-13 escape capsule.

"The crew have returned to the station. They are in absolutely no danger and the debris has already passed by the station," a spokesman for Russia's mission control said after the incident.

"They didn't even close the hatch between the station and the Soyuz."

They were told the time of closest approach to the station would be 1639 GMT (1239 EDT).

The debris was about 1cm (0.3in) in size and part of an old "payload assist motor" that was previously on either a Delta rocket or on the space shuttle, Nasa public affairs officer Laura Rochon told journalists.

"The crew is safe and back in the space station and they are resuming normal operations," Ms Rochon added.

A Nasa spokesperson told BBC News that the space agency had been notified about the possible threat last night. The short lead time forced officials to move the crew into the capsule rather than manoeuvring the space station out of the way.

Two Americans and one Russian are aboard the station

The reason for the short notice is unclear, but the small size of the object and its erratic orbital path may have been factors.

"It's a bit like a swarm of bees in a beehive up there," said William Jeffs, a spokesperson at Nasa's Johnson Space Center in Houston, "the trajectories can sometimes be erratic."

It is unclear how many times crew members had been told to enter the Soyuz, but officials said this was "not the first" occasion. Flight controllers have moved the ISS eight times over the past 10 years in order to avoid debris.

Growing threat

Objects in orbit travel at tens of thousands of kilometres per hour. At these speeds, even a small piece of debris can knock out a satellite or, potentially, cause damage to the space station.

Experts recognise a growing threat to satellites and manned spacecraft from orbital debris and several events over the past three years have drawn attention to the problem.

On 10 February, the US Iridium 33 communications satellite collided with Cosmos 2251, a retired Russian intelligence comms sat.

About 18,000 objects bigger than 10cm are orbiting Earth

The chances of such an event had been estimated at millions or billions to one. The impact produced two expanding clouds of debris in intersecting orbits.

In January 2007, China caused international alarm when it destroyed one of its defunct satellites in a missile test. The US military estimates that this event created 2,500 new pieces of debris in orbit.

In total, there are said to be about 18,000 pieces of orbiting junk larger than 10cm in size.

On Wednesday, Nasa postponed its launch of the space shuttle Discovery from Florida when a hydrogen leak was detected during fuelling.
